Canceled Lessons
Students are
guaranteed a minimum of 40 lessons a year in return for the monthly tuition.
When the student must cancel a lesson
Notice of one week is required for rescheduling of the student’s lesson.
Rescheduling Lessons:
Lessons may be made up several ways:
- A different lesson day and time during the same week as the original lesson
- An extra lesson during a different week. In this case, a full week’s worth of practice will not be required
between lessons. The make-up lesson may be used for technical development, theory activities, sight
reading, music history, or work on a specific piece
- A longer lesson (usually extended in 15 minute increments) for several weeks
- Extra time given to the lesson of another current student who is a family member of the student with the
canceled lesson
When notice of one week is not given:
- The teacher must be notified BEFORE the lesson that is canceled
- If the teacher is contacted BEFORE the lesson that is canceled, but notice of one week is not given, the lesson will only be rescheduled if the teacher requests a reschedule (in order to fulfill the 40 guaranteed lessons)
- If the teacher is not contacted BEFORE the lesson that is canceled, the 40 lessons are no longer guaranteed
Emergency:
- If an emergency prevents lesson attendance, the teacher must be contacted
Illness:
- In the interest of keeping all students well, the teacher reserves the right to refuse lessons to students who have been ill or exhibited fever within 24 hours of their private lesson
- Any student who becomes sick during a lesson will be sent home early from the lesson
Inclement weather:
- Lessons will not be canceled by the teacher if schools are closed for poor weather conditions.
- Please contact the teacher BEFORE the lesson if you will not be coming to a lesson due to weather conditions.
When the teacher must cancel a lesson:
- Notice of one week will be given for a canceled lesson.
- If illness or emergency arises, the teacher will notify the student BEFORE the lesson time on the day of the lesson
- The teacher will not reschedule illness or emergency lessons canceled by the teacher (unless needed to fulfill the
40 guaranteed lessons)

Canceling the Contract
Changes in schedule, long-term illness, relocation, and changes in student interest may cause parents and students to choose to cancel the piano lesson contract. If such changes occur, the student and parent must notify the teacher as soon as possible.
If the contract is to be cancelled, notice of one month must be given. If notice of one month is not given, payment for an additional month will be required. All payments and reimbursements must be accounted for at the final lesson.
