Student Responsibilities . . .

  • Be prepared to learn at each lesson
  • Cultivate a love for music and learning
  • Thoroughly read assignments and comments teacher records in the student notebook each week
  • Bring student notebook, all books, and all supplies to each lesson
  • Practice entire assignment for five days each week
Students who practice well and practice frequently grow quickly in their abilities.  This growth feeds the desire to continue to improve and grow.

Students who do not practice well, practice infrequently, or both will stagnate quickly in their abilities.  This feeds complacency toward improvement and growth.

What is the student assignment?

The student assignment goes in the front of the student notebook each week
The assignment details a plan for practicing for the week.

Sample Assignment Sheet

How long will the assignment take?

Practice time need not be recorded, but the practice assignment sheet must be completed
    • Beginning students practice a minimum of 20 minutes per day
    • Elementary students practice a minimum of 30 minutes per day
    • Intermediate students practice a minimum of 45 minutes per day
    • Advanced students practice a minimum of 1 hour per day

What if the student doesn't practice the assignment?

Coming to lessons prepared is critical to success at the piano.

Preparation means practicing the assignment
  • Students who come to three lessons in a row without completing their practice assignment to
the satisfaction of the teacher will be asked to attend a meeting with the teacher and parent or the parent will be contacted.
  • If, after this  meeting, the student comes to another three lessons in a row without completing his or her practicing to the satisfaction of the teacher, the student will be released.
